Datawind Plans For Smartphones With Free Internet Access

The maker of the Aakash Tablets is now getting ready to launch smartphones which offer free internet access for one year.

Adding to the list of companies providing free internet access, Canadian mobile manufacturer Datawind has come up with plans to launch affordable smartphones in India.

The smartphone by Datawind which is expected to be priced at around Rs.3,000 will come with free basic internet services for one year.

The smartphone is believed to come with a 4-inch display, 1.2GHz processor and run on Android KitKat.

It is worth noting that last year Datawind had tied-up with UniverCell and BSNL to offer its UbiSlate 7Cz and UbiSlate 3G7 tablets with 12 months of unlimited free internet.

However, we still have no clue about the release date of the Datawind smartphone. But, there seems to be rumours that the smartphone may be launch by next week.

Once launched, the smartphone will likely be competing with the likes of Spice Mobiles' Firefox OS powered smartphone Fire One Mi-FX 1 priced atRs.2,299.

To remind you, Datawind was the maker of the Aakash tablets which were made to revolutionize the Indian tablet industry.

We had recently heard of Facebook's Internet.org in collaboration with Reliance to provide free access to 33 websites. Also, Opera had announced App Max which essentially allows users access selected Android app at no data charges.

It is also said that Google is working on zero-rating plans too.

Looks like many companies are nowadays working hard to make India, a country with free internet connectivity.
