Meizu Teases Its MX4 Powered By Ubuntu

Is indeed Canonical’s best foot forward with premium hardware.

Meizu has once again teased its fans with its soon to be announced MX4 Ubuntu edition smartphone. This time around, there are no hints or clues, but a proper image showing off Canonical’s touch-based mobile OS running on an MX4.

While we can choose to take pot shots at the tag line later, Canonical will indeed be the nervous one at the MWC launch; as this is indeed the dream smartphone with premium hardware that the company had opened a crowd-funded campaign for.

While the campaign failed, Canonical later announced that it had roped in BQ and Meizu as hardware partners. And just in a few day’s time we will see the fruits of all that effort.

It seems that Meizu may have added a bit of customisation to the OS as well.

But one thing that has not been confirmed till now, is whether Meizu will also choose to simply announce a dual-boot OS. Will Ubuntu fans have to buy a new Meizu MX4 to play around with Ubuntu Touch?

Coming from an open-source background, our guesses are both options for now. But what Meizu plans to do and how it plans to monetise the same will decide what happens to Canonical’s shiny new OS.
