Millions of Indians to experience free Internet
Facebook joins hands with Reliance Communications to provide free basic internet in six Indian states.
Facebook seems to have determined itself to revolutionize the Indian Internet Connectivity through its mobile app Internet.org which is now available in India to enable millions of people across the six Indian states (Tamil Nadu, Maharashta, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala and Telangana) to surf the internet for free. Facebook had recently hosted a summit in New Delhi where its CEO Mark Zuckerberg addressed about connectivity and how can millions of Indians be connected. In connection with this, Facebook along with Reliance communications are making it possible for millions of Indians to access internet for free with the launch of Internet.org.
The Internet.org app will be providing nearly 30 services for free which includes almost every basic service like reading news, knowing about health, searching jobs and engaging with the local government.

- Cleartrip: Check train and flight schedules & buy tickets
- Daily Bhaskar: Read local news
- Dictionary.com: Search for meanings of words
- ESPN Cricinfo: Get cricket updates
- Facebook: Communicate with friends and family
- Facts for Life: Find health and hygiene information

Since last year, Internet.org has reached more than 150 million people across Africa and Latin America. Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg in his official facebook profile has claimed recently that this is a small step towards connecting India and there is still a long way to go. He posted a photo of himself in the northern Indian village of Chandauli, where he visited last October. He also wrote that the village was recently connected to the Internet for the first time.
Reliance customers of the six Indian states can access these free basic internet services either using Opera Mini mobile web browser or UC Browser. Most of the services will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati and Marathi. Internet.org is now available in Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Colombia, Ghana, and India.
