The OnePlus One Will Not Receive Updates From Cyanogen In India
After days of going back and forth, Cyanogen has made it crystal clear that it will not support the One's sold in India
After going back and forth over the issue of providing OTA firmware updates for the OnePlus One in India, Cyanogen has announced that it will not support devices sold directly in the country. The company cited its commitment towards the exclusive partnership with Micromax as the reason behind not extending support.
In a recent blog post, Cyanogen clarified that it will provide OTA updates for all global devices, including for users in India. However, the company's new blog post states that “this excludes OnePlus One regional devices sold directly in India”.
OnePlus One users in India that purchased the device from channels outside India will continue to be supported by Cyanogen, added the company. It's probably a good thing that OnePlus has already promised to service Indian customers with updates all on its own, with a build based on Lollipop arriving sometime in February.
The company stated that it will not divulge from the core design or useability of Android 5.0 Lollipop. “We appreciate the work that Google has put into Android, and we have no plans of departing from Material Design nor adding unnecessary customizations,” stated OnePlus.
Overall, there's no reason for prospective buyers to be put off by the recent events, unless Cyanogen OS was the sole reason they were looking to buy the device. While the two companies loggerhead over support for Indian devices, at a global level everything seems to be much the same.
