Xiaomi Mi 3 And Mi 4 Get The Nexus Experience With New AOSP KitKat ROMS
While there are many who are shifting to MIUI for the extras, there are indeed some who simply prefer a vanilla Android experience.
Android smartphones all thanks to manufacturer customisations (that Google allows) come with their own pros and cons. While HTC’s Sense clearly makes things faster, the same cannot be said about Samsung’s TouchWiz. When it comes to Xiaomi’s MIUI V5, there are plenty of Android smartphone owners who run the ported ROM on their non-Xiaomi devices. It adds a number of features including built-in themes and a polished UI that runs smoothly without any hiccups. However, it now seems that there are Mi 3 and Mi 4 owners who are looking for some variety as an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM sporting the vanilla KitKat experience has now shown up on the official forums.
Indeed there are a ton of features that those users will be missing out on. But Android is all about different user experiences and the Nexus-like ROM is a different experience by itself. It does borrow code from a number of sources, so you can expect bugs, especially since these are the first fresh builds for the Mi 3 and Mi 4 handsets.
Expect the flagship Xiaomi smartphones to run faster along with better performance optimisations as well. But what you should also expect is a number of bugs that come with initial builds. Still then, as they keep getting reported, the AOSP ROM should become more stable over time. So while we would not suggest jumping on to the ROM for your shiny new Mi 3 right away, you can still try it out by heading to the forum provided you have some experience with the same.
