Microsoft Shutters Its Xbox Entertainment Studios
The move comes as a shock, especially after CEO Nadella's recent assurance that the Xbox is of prime interest to the company.
Microsoft has announced that it will be shuttering its Xbox Entertainment Studios, in the wake of a 18,000 person lay off the company is undertaking. The interactive entertainment wing was formed in 2012 to produce original television content for Microsoft's Xbox Live online service.
The Xbox Entertainment Studios employees roughly 200 people, but it isn't known if all of them will be laid off or absorbed into other departments of the company. The move comes as a shock, especially after CEO Satya Nadella's recent assurances about the company being committed to the Xbox.
The two biggest projects to come out of Xbox Entertainment Studios are Halo: Nightfall and the Halo TV series produced by Steven Spielberg. While the shuttering of the division doesn't necessarily mean the end of the two projects or Microsoft's interest in creating original television content, it does signify a change in way things happen at the company.

It isn't sure what went wrong with the Studio, if anything even did. Most analysts are guessing that Nadella sees the Xbox gaming console division as being too different from the rest of the company, so a studio dedicated to making content for it was a definite no go.
