Rumour: LG To Give Windows Phone A Second Chance With Uni8

According to @evleaks, Korean manufacturer's Windows Phone 8.1 device to be called Uni8.

LG was one of the first few manufacturers to embrace Microsoft's Windows Phone platform. Early WP adaptors would know of Optimus 7 and Quantum. However, due to lukewarm market response, the Korean manufacturer gave up on the platform. Now, according to recently leaked press images, it seems that the company is planning to give Windows Phone a second chance. Looks like Microsoft's latest move to offer its mobile OS for free is helping it win a few manufacturers. In February, the software-giant had announced that Lenovo, LAVA (XOLO), Karbonn, ZTE, Gionee, and Foxconn are coming aboard as hardware partners.

A leaked image, posted by popular leakster @evleaks, shows an LG handset running Windows Phone 8.1. The handset looks like a "phablet", and is said to be called the Uni8.

Going by the image, we can tell that it's a sleek looking device. Similar to the recently launched Nokia Lumia 630, the handset lacks capacitive keys. Instead of that, you get three on screen keys. LG has also done away with the camera shutter key. At this point, there's no information regarding the phone's hardware specifications.

Since @evleaks has a good track record in terms of leaks, expect this handset to go official sometimes later this year. It seems Microsoft is doing a good job at courting more and manufacturers to its mobile platform. However, it should be worried about existing partners such as HTC and Samsung not putting any efforts to promote the platform.
