WP8 (Apollo) Details Leaked

Will probably support multi-core CPUs, microSD cards, and NFC.

Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 (WP8) demonstration video, meant only for its partner Nokia, has been leaked. According to the folks at pocketnow.com, WP8 (aka Apollo) will bring several new features while removing some stupid restrictions.

On the hardware front, Apollo will support multi-core CPUs to fight a specs war against the iPhones and top-end Androids. The long-due microSD card slot will also make its way to the platform. Additionally, WP8 devices will sport an NFC chip for easy pairing with accessories and for enabling mobile payments.

Coming to the software improvements, the browser will be upgraded to IE10. This yet-to-be-announced browser will feature server-side data compression, previously seen in Opera Mini. Skype will also be tightly integrated into the UI for a better user experience. The annoying requirement of using Zune to transfer files will probably be dropped in favour of a streamlined version of ActiveSync. However, this could well turn out to be a case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Lastly, WP8 will have a similar code structure as that of Windows 8, allowing developers to easily port apps between the two.

Reportedly, WP8 will debut some time after October. This is definitely a step in the right direction for the platform. Now how about enabling Bluetooth file sharing?
