LG G2 Finally Gets A Taste Of Android KitKat

The software update brings performance enhancements and longer battery life to the table.

LG G2 has been one of the best performing handset of 2013. It brought OIS (optical Image Stabilisation) to android and had one of the best IPS displays in the market. Prior G2, OIS was only limited to Nokia smartphones such as the Lumia 920, 925 and 1020. What the LG G2 lacked back then was the latest version of Android. But, now finally the Korean brand has addressed this issue.

According to GSMArena.com, the software update for the international G2, brings a host of improvements. The phone was blazingly fast to begin with and the update makes it even faster. It also improves the battery efficiency. We think the most interesting feature here would be the ability to switch the runtime from Dalvik to ART. In case you're not familiar with it, runtime is a virtual machine that runs apps on Android devices. Dalvik has been doing this job since the inception of Android. However, the new ART does it better. It's not only faster than its predecessor, but also goes easy on battery. A lot of developers are optimising their apps for the upcoming ART standard. So if you have an LG G2, we suggest you make the switch once you have updated and get the lag-free android experience.

Here's the detailed list of improvements:

  • Improved user interface with Android 4.4 KitKat: The latest version of Android includes enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, improved closed captioning support, and stronger security.
  • Improved battery efficiency: the phone plays music more efficiently and supports the battery-saving location mode, extending battery life.
  • Faster processing speed: The latest version of Android provides a noticeable speed boost that runs applications 17 percent faster than before and web-browsing speed is improved with the Chromium engine.
  • Printing in the Cloud: Google Cloud Printer makes it simple to print documents via Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth connection.
  • Enhanced “Knock On” feature: The responsiveness of LG’s Knock On feature has been improved.
