Nexus 5 Battery Draining Quickly? Google’s Working On A Fix

Issue could affect all Qualcomm SoC powered phones running KiKat 4.4.2.

 

Have you been noticing some quick battery drain on your Nexus 5 lately? Well, Google says it’s because of a camera process that keeps running in the background that gets triggered due to certain apps.

The process in question here is the 'mm-qcamera-daemon', which is said to be triggered by Skype and similar apps that use the camera module. Surprisingly, Google is not blaming Microsoft's for the issue. The fault lies in KitKat’s code that Google promises to rectify shortly with an update.

What is shocking though, is that Google claims that the process can be triggered on any smartphone using the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. What this means is that each phone with Snapdragon SoC has differences in their software and hence the issues with them will not be the same as the Nexus 5.

For now, Google recommends re-booting your Nexus 5 in order to stop the process, or simply uninstall the apps that cause this problem. Google is currently working on the fix, but due to the large scale of fixes needed, there is currently no estimated time for the patch to arrive.
