LG Gets Into The Mid-Range Jig With The L Series III

After HTC and Sony, LG gets serious about the mid-range smartphone market.

 

A few weeks ago HTC announced that it would be looking into building a whole new range of mid-tier smartphones to support the company’s profits. Then, we heard rumours about Japanese tech-giant Sony unveiling the Xperia G to strengthen its mid-range offering. This time around, it's LG that has announced an all new L Series III; a trio of handsets from the mid-level right down to the entry level. The handsets are called the LG L90, L70, and L40. What makes these budget handsets will offer Android KitKat out-of-the-box.

In terms of hardware, it’s pretty much the standard fare. The LG L90 comes with a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor and 8 GB of built-in memory which is expandable via microSD. Being the best one in this range, it also sports a qHD (960x 540) pixel 4.7 inch IPS display and an 8 mega pixel primary camera and is powered by a large 2,540 mAh battery.

The LG L70, second in line, packs smaller 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, sporting a 4.5 inch WVGA IPS display, but 4 GB of build-in memory which can be expanded via a micro SD card. The battery on L70 is a smaller but capable 2100 mAh one.

Both the devices come with 1 GB of RAM which should allow for quick app switching and be good for gaming.

Last but not the least is the L40, the most reasonably priced one in the range but still packs quite a punch. Here you get a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor similar to the L70 but a smaller 480x320 3.5 inch display and 4GB of built-in memory but a paltry 512 MB of RAM. The handset will come with 1700 mAh or 1540 mAh removable battery which would be market specific.
