Girl Suffers From 'Moderate' Burns After Her iPhone Catches Fire
Thankfully, the victim gets an immediate treatment and is said to be recovering.
The issue of burning smartphones isn't limited to Sino-Indian brands. We've heard similar horror stories from the Samsung and Apple users. One such incident recently took place in the US. According to Seacoastline, an eighth-grader from Kennebunks was treated for "moderate" burns after the iPhone caught fire in her pocket last weekend.
It's said that the mishap too place as soon as the student sat down for the 1st lecture of the day. Student in the class “heard a pop” from her back pocket, followed by smoke. The school's staff claims that the student's quick thinking, as well as that of those around her, prevented any worse burns or injury.
Li-polymer batteries are thinner compared to the Li-ion ones, which is the reason why Apple uses them in the iPhones. On the flip side, these batteries are highly volatile. A small puncture in it can cause a nasty explosion. A similar accident had happened in Finland a couple of years ago. In both the incidents, the iPhones were kept in the back pockets. The only logical explanation we could think of is that sitting on the phone could have mechanically damaged the battery. Moral of the story: If you own an iPhone, don't keep it in your back pocket.
