Indian Hackers Help Sue Symantec
Provide 13,000 source code files as evidence; Complainant not interested.
A group of Indian hackers known as Lords of Dharmaraja has retrieved 13,000 files from the Norton Utilities 2006 source code to assist as evidence in a US lawsuit against Symantec Corp. A spokesman for the group, YamaTough tweeted, "Mr. Gross pass it on to forensics and win the lawsuit. Enjoy everybody Norton Utilities".
The lawsuit states that "Symantec seeks to convince consumers to buy Norton Utilities and PC Tools software programs by scaring them with misleading information about the health of their computers". However, the complainant James Gross isn't too thrilled to use unlawful means to prove his point. His lawyer Jay Edelson adds, "This is not something we think is necessary to support our case and we don't support hacking. We are not a rogue nation where the only hope is for people to take matters in their own hands".
So much for being the Good Samaritan. Then again, this seems to be a smart move by Gross, especially if the case is strong enough to stand on its own merits.
