Micromax Aims To Be An International Khiladi With Hugh Jackman
The Hollywood star will replace Akshay Kumar as their new Brand Ambassador to promote Canvas series of smartphones.
Move aside Samsung, Sony and iPhone, India's largest smartphone manufacturer just got itself a Hollywood connection.
Yes! You read it right, for Micromax has roped in the 'Prestige' star Hugh Jackman to... err... add some 'prestige' to its brand, referred to as the 'Garibon Ka Samsung' (Poor Man's Samsung).
Known for their affordable smartphones and horrendous after-sales support, Micromax is obviously raking in the moolah, given that Jackman is known to charge an arm and a leg for endorsements. This begs the question as to why Micromax doesn't spend all that cash on improving customer support?
Maybe, Jackman is expected to play a Huge (pun intended) role in the company's backroom activities as well. Besides endorsing the Micromax 'Canvas' series, he might just answer your customer call too!
There's no official word on the amount paid, but we expect that the 'Wolverine' star has pocketed a couple of million dollars, give or take a few pennies.
Now we know why our 'babus' were offended when Micromax co-founder offered a measly bribe of Rs.30 lakh. Apparently, they reported what appeared to be a transaction of 'loose change' to CBI, which led to the arrest of Rajesh Aggarwal and Manish Tuli, co-founders of Micromax.
The question now is where does the Jackman deal leave Bollywood's own Khiladi Kumar? Right from their infancy, Micromax has associated with Akshay Kumar who flaunted the smartphone as an accessory to his 'smart ass' persona on screen.
As Jackman kicks off his campaign with the upcoming Canvas Turbo, the 'Khiladi' might as well go back to singing 'Tu Khiladi, Main Anari'. Don't be shocked if you hear shortly that Akshay has roped in the 'X-Man' for his next Bollywood flick. That's how a Khiladi operates!
On his part, the Wolverine star mouthed the routine platitudes. He said, “I am extremely thrilled and honoured to be part of the Micromax family. I am a huge lover of India as it is one of the most exciting countries in the world, and we also share our love for cricket. Phones are genuinely time saving devices that can help you live a better life while juggling around with different situations. The new Canvas phone from Micromax is a leap in innovation with great sense of fun and amazing features that helps me balance my work with all the different roles that I play in my everyday life.”
And this is what our Editor had to say about this development:
Micromax trying to go global with Hugh Jackman. But if their service doesn't improve, they'll be known as the boy who cried Wol...verine!
