Registrations Open For Facebook 2012 Hacker Cup

Second edition of the annual hackathon begins 20th Jan.

Just as news of Facebook suffering a worm-attack comes in, the social networking website has announced the second edition of its annual Hacker Cup. Registration for the 2012 edition is now open, as hackers and programmers from around the world will try to tear down the website's security walls. Facebook Software Engineer David Alves posted, "Hacking is core to how we build at Facebook. Whether we're building a prototype for a major product like Timeline at a Hackathon, creating a smarter search algorithm, or tearing down walls at our new headquarters, we're always hacking to find better ways to solve problems".

Spanning over three online rounds, the algorithmic programming contest will commence on the 20th of this month. The top 25 hackers from round three will be flown to the Facebook campus at Menlo Park, California for the finals. The dangling carrot? A $5,000 cash reward with the title of World Champion. The second and third place winners can stake their claim to $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. The others in the top 25 will get $100 each. Would you like to try your luck too?
