Aircel E-Book Store BookMate Comes To Android
The collection is still very small; iOS app said to be in works.
Looks like everyone wants to have an e-book repository under their belt these days. After Flipkart and Amazon.in it's now time for Aircel to join the club. The teleco has just rolled out a dedicated e-book store called "Aircel BookMate " for its customers.
Similar to Flipkart's Flyte e-book store, you'll need a dedicated Android app to read these books. The app resembles the iOS Newsstand app, but the service isn’t available on that OS yet, the app download button says "coming soon" on the site. This is a bit strange considering Aircel is one of the telcos that brought the iPhones (3GS and above) to India.
Aircel users will have to collect points which can be redeemed for books. Now the collection is quite interesting in itself, you can digitise your Chacha Chaudhary or other Diamond Comics collections. There are magazines, fiction novels, and reference books to pick from. The collection is very small as of now, so Aircel better stock up fast if it wants to fit in the league of the Amazons and Flipkarts any time soon.
