Google+ Opens Up For All
Comes out of beta relatively faster than Gmail.
Google+, the social networking service from Google, has come out of beta and is now open to all who want to join it after its initial launch as a "by invitation only" service. This has happened relatively quickly, within just within three months of its launch, as against Gmail, which took over five years to come out of beta.
In addition to opening its gates to the general public, Google+ also introduced new features including the ability to search for information about topics such as cooking and photography. Users can also see relevant Google+ users and their posts on such topics in addition to relevant content from around the internet. The mobile version of the service has new features for users of Google Android devices with a front camera, who can now participate in a multi-person Hangout, which can be seen as a potential advantage over Apple's FaceTime service for iOS devices which only allows one-to-one video chats.
Google seems to have strategically made this announcement just before Facebook's annual conference known as F8, where software developers for that social networking service meet and discuss. It should be noted that Google also started allowing developers to build apps for Google+ last week, which can be seen as another move to up its ante against its archrival. Nevertheless, Google+ with its 25 million users is still far behind FB with a colossal 750 million, and it will take a lot more to get anywhere near the reigning champion of the social networking arena.
