Micromax Launches Flagship Canvas 4 A210 With Android 4.2 For Rs 18,000
Jelly Bean based handset powered by a quad-core CPU, sports a 5" HD IPS screen, dual-SIM, and dual cameras.
Micromax has launched its new flagship handset — the Canvas 4 A210. The company finally lifted the veil of secrecy surrounding its heavily-hyped handset at an event in Delhi today. Micromax had already made handset available for pre-order on its site with a booking amount of Rs 5000 from 28th of June and has reportedly scored 11,500 pre-bookings. With a plastic front and back, the body is structurally reinforced by an aluminium strip running along the edges, which also imparts it better aesthetics than other Micromax phones. The Jelly Bean based handset is powered by a quad-core MediaTek CPU and 1 GB of RAM. Internal storage of 16 GB is further complimented with up to 32 GB more via microSD card. The front of the phone is graced by a 5" HD IPS screen, so the viewing angles and colours should be good. In addition to a 13 mp rear camera, there is a 5 mp snapper on top of the screen. This is a dual-SIM smartphone with 3G and Wi-Fi. There is also a "Blow to Unlock" feature using which, the user can unlock the phone by blowing air onto it. Similarly, it also supports gestures. Of course, we think these are gimicky features at best. Here are the handset's specifications:
- Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean), Google Play Store.
- Dual-SIM, Dual standby, GSM (2G): 900/1800/1900/850 MHz, UMTS (3G): 2100 MHz.
- Apps and Games: Hook Up, kingsoft Office Suite, M! Live, M! Zone +, M! Security, Spuul, Hike, Foneclay, Music Hub, Opera Mini, GMS, Game Hub, NFS, Fruit Devil, Dark man.
- 5" IPS touchscreen with pixel dimensions of 720x1280.
- 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 CPU, PowerVR SGX 544MP.
- 1 GB RAM.
- 16 GB internal storage (10 GB user accessible), Up to 32 GB microSD supported.
- 13 megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, 4-direction panorama, HDR, Full HD recording, 5 megapixel front camera.
- 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS.
- Micro-USB 3.0, 3.5 mm audio jack, FM radio, Full HD 30 fps video playback.
- Sensors: Gravity, Proximity, Ambient light.
- 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery with up to 8 hours talk time and 220 hours standby time.
- 5.7" (H) x 2.9" (W) x 0.35" (8.9 mm) (D), 158 grams.
With a screen size of 5", the Canvas 4 will compete with the recently-launched Lava Iris 504Q, Zen Ultrafone 701HD, and the more expensive Panasonic P51 with similar specs, with the latter having a 2500 mAh battery. However, the Canvas 4 comes with 16 GB of internal storage, which is certainly a relief as compared to the paltry 4 GB that comes with the other two handsets. The Micromax Canvas 4 210 is priced at Rs 18,000, which seems to be somewhat reasonable for now, especially as it comes with the free flip cover. However, we are sure that the competitors will soon come up with similar handsets at prices lower than Rs 15,000.
