WD Challenges Seagate With Thinnest 1 TB Laptop Hard Drive

New 7mm-slim 2.5" hard drive delivers high data storage capacity for thin and light mobile devices.

Western Digital has announced that its new 2.5-inch WD Blue 7mm hard drive is the world's thinnest 1 TB HDD. Having already begun shipping in India through select distributors and resellers, it offers OEMs, system integrators and consumers a storage solution for thin and light laptops (also called ultrabooks). It retains compatibility with industry-standard 9.5mm drive slots of mainstream laptops. Touted features include Shock Tolerance, WhisperDrive™ and StableTrac™ technology, to keep the drive noise low and functional even under slightly stressful conditions.

Matt Rutledge, Vice President and General Manager for client storage products at WD said, "Users with large portfolios of content no longer need to sacrifice capacity when buying an Ultrabook or upgrading to a thin and light notebook. This most compact 1TB hard drive to-date offers manufacturers of systems an upsell path for their customers who will now be able to choose systems offering both sleek design and high capacity."

The WD Blue family of 2.5-inch slim mobile HDDs for laptops, is available in capacities ranging from 320 GB to 1TB in the 7mm height. Already available in India with a 2-year limited warranty, MSRP pricing (excluding taxes) is as follows:
