ASUS Radeon HD7790-DC2OC-1GD5 Graphics Card Launched

This new factory-overclocked Radeon HD 7790 is targeted at budget gamers, with 1GB of memory onboard and DirectX 11.1 support.

The Asus HD7790-DCU2OC graphics card was announced this week; with a factory-overclocked AMD Radeon HD 7790 GPU and dual-fan. The graphics card adds to Asus' existing range of tweaked graphics cards.

Asus' HD7790-DCU2 OC is incorporated with a 28nm GPU built on AMD Graphics Core Next architecture and clocked at 1075MHz. It supports DirectX 11.1 and features 1GB of GDDR5 video memory rated at 6400MHz. The HD7790-DCU2 is claimed to offer considerable overclocking overhead, which you can utilize with the ASUS GPU Tweak tool. GPU Tweak makes it easy to increase core and memory speeds, change voltages, regulate fan speeds, and create individual profiles for different games. Overclocking enables computer component to operate at a faster speed than AMD's chip designers intended, but you'd still have to stay within reasonable limits.

Mr. Vinay Shetty, Country Head for Component Business, ASUS (India) said, "The ASUS HD7790-DCU2 OC Graphics Card has dual-fan direct CU 2 thermal design that ensures 20% cooler and quieter performance. This upper mid-range graphics card also delivers good gaming and multimedia performance. ASUS once again presents a superb graphics card for all tech enthusiasts."

The graphics card is priced at Rs 11,000 and comes with a three-year warranty. Important tech-specs of the Asus HD7790-DCU2 OC:

  • Model name: HD7790-DCU2OC-1GD5
  • Graphics engine: Open GL
  • Video memory: 1GB GDDR5, 6400MHz (1600MHz GDDR5)
  • Memory interface: 128-bit
  • Engine clock: 1075MHz
  • Outputs: DVI-I x 1, DVI-D x 1
  • Bundled software: ASUS GPU Tweak and driver
  • Dimensions: 8.5-inch x 5.1-inch x 1.5-inch

Power requirements aren't modest, with twin 6-pin power connectors on the ASUS HD7790-DCU2 OC. Online benchmarks place the performance of the Radeon 7790 GPU a bit lower than the Radeon 6850, and relatively comparable to Nvidia's GeForce GTX 650 Ti. Expect its performance on newer PC games to be acceptable only at sub-1080p resolutions. This places it bang in the lower mid-range of PC gaming graphics cards, even though it may well be the GPU to drive the next Xbox (upcoming game console release by Microsoft).
