Android Smartphones Expected From Lenovo, RCom Partnership
These devices are expected to be low-cost and compete with other brands in the segment.
Reliance Communications and PC manufacturing giant Lenovo are all set to collaborate to launch five new low cost smartphones in India, according to reports. All are speculated to run on the Android platform. They are estimated to be made available in over 1,000 Lenovo stores and around 2,500 Reliance outlets.
One of these smartphones will support GSM and CDMA, be available in March, and is expected to be priced below Rs 8,000.
"India's smartphone market is booming and predicted to grow even faster in the coming years. Lenovo's partnership with Reliance creates strong synergies that leverage the unique strengths of Reliance and Lenovo," Lenovo Group SVP and President (LBG) Liu Jun told reporters in a press conference.
Since relatively new manufacturers such as iBall, NuGen, Karbonn etc are flooding the Indian market with their own low cost Android smartphones, the collaboration between Reliance Communications and Lenovo could compete with them.
