Lenovo Announces Windows 8 Powered ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch Ultrabook
Features a 14" touchscreen and carbon fibre body; offers choice of Core i5 and i7 CPUs.
Lenovo has announced a touchscreen version of its ThinkPad X1 Carbon ultrabook. Dubbed the X1 Carbon Touch, this Windows 8 laptop has a body made of carbon fibre; it is built to withstand rough use to some extent. Despite the touchscreen being present, Lenovo has retained the iconic pointing stick made famous by IBM. Similar to its predecessor, the X1 Carbon Touch's 14" LED backlit screen has pixel dimensions of 1600x900. The unit is powered by a 3rd-generation Intel Core CPU; you get the option to choose from the Core i5 and Core i7. Other features include Dolby Home Theater v4 enhancement, Intel HD graphics, and an HDMI port. The detailed specs are as follows:
- 14" LED backlit touchscreen (1600x900 pixels).
- Up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM.
- Storage: 128 GB SSD SATA3.
- 3rd generation Intel Core i5-3427U CPU (3M cache, up to 2.80 GHz) / i7-3667U CPU (4M cache, up to 3.20 GHz).
- 720p HD webcam with dual array microphones.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0.
- USB 2.0, USB 3.0, 4-in-1 SD card reader.
- Backlit keyboard (Island-style six-row).
- Touchpad with multi-gesture support, Fingerprint reader.
- Windows 8 64-bit / Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.
The prices of ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch start from $1500 (approx Rs 82,000), which is $150 more than the non-touch version. Considering that the non-touch version is currently available for Rs 85,000 in India, expect the X1 Carbon Touch to retail for around 90 – 95k when it hits the Indian market.
