LG Optimus 2X Will Not Be Updated To Android 4.0
LG gave out this info on the social networking site Facebook.
The LG Optimus 2X is one of the cheapest dual core Android handsets around and also the very first dual core smartphone to be introduced into the market. Although this has to be one of the favourites of the company and users, a statement from the Korean electronics giant begs to differ. The company via its Facebook page today mentioned that the Optimus 2X will not get the recently announced Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android. This honestly comes as a surprise to us since the handset has been the company's flagship for a long time now along with the Optimus 3D of course.
LG gave out this info in reply to a question from a user. The statement said, "Dear Anant, We will not be introducing Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich updates on LG Optimus 2X P990. Keep watching this space for further updates".
It must also be noted that the Optimus 2X still runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo), which is more or less outdated now with Gingerbread ruling the most parts of the market (though the stats speak otherwise). LG promised a Gingerbread update when the phone first broke cover, but the whole process hasn't really come off yet. This seems like negligence on LG's part because companies such as Samsung and Sony Ericsson have announced that the current flagship handsets of the company will be eligible for the Ice Cream Sandwich update. Therefore, for the people who bought the LG Optimus 2X for being the first dual core smartphone in the world, this can't be good news. It's a general belief that Android 4.0 supports anything with a dual core processor or even lesser. It is therefore beyond understanding why LG has made an exception in the case of this handset. This will certainly be a deal breaker for new buyers because the Optimus 2X seems like a very affordable choice when compared to the likes of HTC Sensation, Galaxy S II, Galaxy R etc.
