Want an Apple Watch? Go for the Series 3 Now

Considering your first Apple Watch? Go for the Series 3 that is available at a bargain price and it offers you most of what the latest Series 5 brings

When the entire world and their aunts play fanboy to every single piece of hardware launched by Apple, there is a small group of gadget lovers who play smart and acquire the company’s products launched a couple of seasons ago.

At this precise moment, there is a beeline for the iPhone 7 and 7S series and for those who have dreamt of owning an Apple Watch, the time is just perfect to go after the Series 3. Yes, you read that right. The Series 5 may have hit the market, but to the discerning buyer, the watches from two years ago are available at a bargain.

Why do we say that? For two reasons… as always, the prices are exorbitant even by EMI standards and the updates aren’t all that earth-shattering for users to pay that extra bit. There is a third reason that the company has slashed prices of the earlier models which means one can get an Apple Watch Series 3 for as much as Rs.20,000.

By the way, there is also the fourth reason that the bigger sized offerings from Series 5 isn’t exactly a great fashion accessory for women with slim wrists! The Series 3 watches ranged between 33 and 42 mm while the current ones are sized at 40 and 44 mm. Wonder what was Apple thinking, because the same criticism has hit their latest iPhones as well. Did somebody forget that Apple has fan girls too?

From the point of view of features, Apple introduced fall detection in the new phone, but then which 25-year-old is really concerned about it? Of course, the feature is invaluable for the elderly, but then we don’t have too many fanboys in that category, do we? By the way, there’s also an upgraded heart sensor!

The Apple Watch Series 3 allows you to do almost everything else. It tracks daily activity, can tell you how many calories you burnt, and offer a kick up your backside if thinks that you aren’t pushing the limits at the gym. And the tracking process is quite elaborate, keeping tabs on everything from your yoga, to cycling and running and much more.

While it doesn’t have a constant heart monitor, the Series 3 still does enough. It warns users of unusual fluctuations in heart rates while screening for any irregular heart rhythm that could suggest other ailments. What’s more, it could even call for help automatically when something on these lines is detected.

Oh wait! There is also the always on feature on the newest Apple watch. It is a bit like the daylight running lights in automobiles that many consider to be a waste of energy. Of course, in the case of Apple, this may not be true as true fanboys would love to have their watches on always-on mode – thanks to the new retina display feature.

But then, the Apple Watch Series 3 offers you the privilege of flicking your wrist each time you want to check time. Now, if people won’t notice this action of yours, there is every likelihood that they may also miss the always on display. So, the older version from September 2017 doesn’t really lose out here.

The Series 3 has a decent enough battery life that lasts one full day and at this point the watch does allow users to download the latest software update – the WatchOS 6. So, there’s really nothing spectacular you’d be missing if you chose a Series 3 over a Series 5.

Other than the extra 17K that you would dish out for the newest model!
