Twitter has announced new versions of its apps for the Android and iOS platforms. The update has incorporated recent changes made in the browser version of the microblogging service. The apps now enable you to expand tweets on the device, as well as play videos and view embedded images without leaving the screen.

Users can also discover events (prefixed with a #), and major improvements have been made in the search autocomplete feature. The app also provides for SMS-based tweet notifications. Along with the new logo, the software promises better reliability, with several bugs and crashes having been fixed.
