Govt And Private Websites Can Expect More DDoS Attacks: CERT-In

Internet watchdog tells websites to co-ordinate with ISPs for "proactive actions"(sic).

 

Looks like more Indian websites have trouble coming their way, as planned DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks are gaining momentum. As suggested by reports from CERT-In (Indian - Computer Emergency Response Team), these websites can belong to both the government as well as private organisations. The report further states, "These attacks are being launched through popular DDoS tools and can consume bandwidth requiring appropriate proactive actions in coordination with service providers". The internet watchdog has also provided a list of actions that can be carried out prior such attacks, as well as measure to be taken after an attack has be initiated. It seems like the guys from Anonymous have really gotten under their skin now.

A report from IANS further states that the Minister of State for Communications and IT Sachin Pilot wrote to the Lok Sabha, clarifying that 112 government websites, including that of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), were hacked between December 2011 to February 2012. These websites belonged to the governments of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Sikim, and Manipur. Although most of these attacks have come from across the border, the fresh guidelines seem to be more because of the recent hacks on account of internet censorship.
