Google RailWire Launches Free Wi-Fi At Eight Mumbai Suburban Stations
The Wi-Fi services are being provided to any user with a smartphone device under ‘RailWire’ at a speed of 1 gbps.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, today inaugurated the broadband internet facility at eight major stations such as Churchgate, Bandra, Bandra Terminus, Dadar (WR) Khar Road, Kalyan, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Dadar (CR).
The Wi-Fi facility has been enabled for commuters by Indian Railways in association with RailTel, which provides internet services as RailWire. The Wi-Fi facility is being provided at a speed of 1 gbps with a total number of 318 access points, 120 access switches and 30 fibre switches has been installed at eight suburban stations to provide Wi-Fi to commuters.
According to a PTI report published in BGR, Wi-Fi facilities will be enabled across the chosen 17 suburban stations in Mumbai provided by RailTel at a speed of 1 gbps.This will help commuters to remain connected to internet at all times and can access any railway related information on the go.
In the month of June this year, RailTel project was launched to provide seamless and fast internet connectivity across railway stations in India. Google’s wifi initiative in India initially rolled at four of India’s largest stations - Sealdah, Lucknow Jn, Lucknow and Gorakhpur Jn and Google stated that nearly 1.5 million Indians are now enjoying the high-speed broadband experience across 19 stations.
