Google Taken To Court Over Narendra Modi

Because obviously, they control their search engine results.

 

It’s true; I just tried it. If you image-search for ‘Top 10 criminals of the world’ or something along those lines on Google, you’ll find this among them:

Narendra Modi’s face sits alongside those of the late Osama Bin Laden, former US President George W Bush Jr, and others.

Incensed by this, advocate Sushil Kumar Mishra moved an application before the chief judicial magistrate but his plea was dismissed on November 3, 2015, on grounds that it was a civil case. In his complaint, the advocate contended that this was a huge disrespect to the Indian Republic. He said that he had written to the company asking it to remove Modi's name but got no response.

Gupta challenged CJM's order by filing a revision application in an Allahabad court which allowed the application and passed the order.

The Search Engine results appear with the following disclaimer from Google: These results don’t reflect Google’s opinion or our beliefs; our algorithms automatically matched the query to web pages with these images.

Google said that results to the query "top 10 criminals in India" was due to a British daily which had an image of Modi and erroneous metadata.

The company has apologised to PM Modi for the issue. Of course they should. Google personally oversees every photo that the interweb spews out in an image search. Algorithms and keywords have nothing to do with it.

Isn’t it obvious?
