Google To Begin Testing Project Loon In India
Finally, the Indian government has approved to test the Project Loon to beam Internet connectivity across the country.
Google is all set to bring 'Project Loon' into India as the Indian government has reportedly given an approval to the Internet giant to set up the big balloons to provide better Internet.
According to Tech2, Google would be teaming up with state-run telecom operator BSNL in order to test the technology by using the broadband spectrum in 2.6 GHz band.
However, there seems to be no official announcement on the same yet.
Also, PTI has put it out that though Google approached government to test both Project Loon and Drone-based Internet Transmission, the approval has been given to only Project Loon as of now, by forming a committee under chairmanship of Secretary of DeitY.
A few other sources have also added that the DeitY committee is looking forward to identify the location along with coordination with various agencies.
Just in case if you didn't know, Google's Project Loon is a project where big balloons are allowed to float at a height of 20 kilometers above the Earth's surface which provide Internet transmission related services.
Also, to recall, this technology has already been tested in New Zealand, Califronia and Brazil.
Earlier, Google has also announced that it would be setting up free WiFi hotspots across 400 railway stations through the nation while it also has rolled out Google Fiber to provide free Internet option.
