When it comes to air quality in major cities across India, the worst offenders are Delhi, Agra, Lucknow, Varanasi, and Jodhpur. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air in these regions is of very poor quality that can cause respiratory illness on prolonged exposure. Things get worse if your house happens to be in vicinity of a road or a factory. Sure, you can avoid the pollution by wearing a mask outdoors. However, that's too much to follow at home. In this case, air purifiers come to the rescue. We have already seen many brands such as Philips, Honeywell, Kent, and Xiaomi selling such products in India. Now, a Swedish company Bluair has entered the market. Its first machine Classic 280i provides to provide healthy air for your family for Rs 55,000. Let us find out if it is worth the price tag.

 
Aesthetics and build
Blueair's Classic 280i is quite a robust machine. It is bigger than a cabinet size of an old school gaming PC. With its sturdy metal high-grade plastic build, the machine tips the scales at around 11 kg.
 
The design is minimalistic. The choice of colour, which is a combination and white and grey is easy on eyes. The machine has feather touch buttons on the top side that can be hid with a flap. The filter is very easy to clean or replace.

 
Setup
getting the machine up and running is as easy as it gets. Keep it upright, and you are good to go. All the important controls are right there on the device. If you want to fine tune your experience, the air filter comes with the goodness of IoT (Internet of Things). Using Wi-Fi connectivity, it syncs with Blueair Friend app on your smartphone. Available for Android and iPhone, this app enables you to control your air filter remotely. Other bells and whistles include on/off timers, LED light controls, and information on air quality in cities across the world.

 
Performance
The Classic 280i comes with some heavy duty filter assembly that traps bacteria and other harmful particles. The company claims that the machine can get rid of a particle with a size of 0.1 micron. Not only that, its carbon activated filters block smoke, auto exhaust, chemical fumes, and harmful VOCs (Volatile organic compound).
 
This air purifier is ideal for a 280 sq ft room. Its CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) is of 340 cubic metres per hour. That's a generously large room size for a middle class family in most Indian cities. Those who live in Mumbai will agree.
 
My bedroom is approx 130 square feet. During the testing, the Classic 280i took only 20 minutes to 115 g/m to 12 g/m. During this, the fan speed was set to max at 3. The back of the machine sucks the air and releases the healthy air from the top vent.

 
Operational noise
On first two fan speeds, the Classic 280i run fairly quiet. At max speed, it becomes quite audible. While the machine's noise is not very loud, you can compare it a normal 1.5 ton AC's noise. Before you get it mixed up, I'm meaning to compare it to the noise of AC's indoor unit.
 
Verdict
The Classic 280i does what it says. It is very effective at removing pollutants from the air. The air purifier is well built and will last long. The ease of use is great. The only concern here is that it is priced significantly higher than the competing machines with the similar capacity. However, if you are looking for no-hassle experience, then the Bleuair 280i is the way to go.
