07th May 2016With a childlike innocence and curiosity, I saw my mother fiddle with a smartphone for the first time. She had unboxed the phone with utmost care, set aside the instruction manual and accessories and held that smartphone in her hands; oh what a priceless moment! She had insisted that she unbox the phone herself and she did a neat job. Was she this excited when I was born? Well, that is not the concern here, before me stood the daunting challenge of teaching my mother how to use the smartphone. Dear God, give me patience and strength!
It was hilarious to watch my mother learn to answer calls, send messages and finally pose for selfies. Now I feel the sense of euphoria my mother had when I barely cleared my 10th grade mathematics exam.
This Mother’s Day, as children, we need to let our mothers know how we feel about them and gadgets. It’s like the love for wine or sushi. It’s an acquired taste. We could classify our mothers into two broad categories. The super tech savvy mother and the clueless beginner mother. Both are such a delight in their own right! The tech savvy mother appreciates technology and is at complete ease with gadgets, the clueless beginner mothers may or may not appreciate technology and gadgets. They might develop a love for gadgets in a bid to bond better with their children. My 87-year-old neighbor is all over the social media- Facebook, WhatsApp, Skype and I had complimented her saying she was cool, to which she smiled and replied, “I am not cool, if not for this, how else can I see my daughter and grandson in Dubai”. That’s a mother, tech savvy or not, they love you and next time your mother asks you for the hundredth time how to change the wallpaper or how to record a voicemail, take a deep breath and explain to her as if she were your child.
The tech savvy mothers can easily put their children to shame with their grasp over technology. There is absolutely no way that you can hoodwink such a mother. Kids of these mothers are the ones that fiercely guard their phones with an intricate lock pattern! You could always take a tech related advice from her. She is the boss!
Whether tech-savvy or not you could gift your mother a pair earphones. She could plug into her favourite genre of music during her routine morning walk. From an affordable Brainwavz Earphones priced at INR 1,699 to an expensive Sennheiser Momentum Wireless Earphones priced at 34,990, earphones are a musical way of surprising mothers.
Gifting mothers a new phone is like gifting a baby a toy. The happiness is unbeatable, so from premium phones like Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge priced around at INR 48,900 or a Huawei Nexus 6P priced around at INR 34,499 are great gifting options. Also you could opt for budget phones like LeEco Le 1s priced at INR 10,999 or Redmi Note 3 priced around INR 11,999 to surprise your beloved mother.
Be it any age, health and fitness is important, especially mothers who go the extra mile to keep the family healthy. Get her a HealthYu Cassatte priced at INR 4,999 or a Moto Sport 360 Smartwatch priced at INR 19,999. Keep a track of her vital health statistics and help her remain fit and energetic all day. You could also download some interesting healthcare apps for her like Yoga Wake Up and MyFitness Pal.
Tech savvy or not, this Mother's Day splurge on some goodies that is sure to get your mother hooked to it. A Kindle Oasis priced at INR 23,999, a Mi Blutooth Speaker priced around at INR 2,000 or even the iPad Pro 9.7 priced at INR 49,990 should do the trick and pamper your mother.
Let’s not forget about mother’s to be! It’s said a woman becomes a mother the minute she conceives her child. Quite a stressful time, the anticipation and body changes that occur during the course of gestation. Get her Angel Sounds, a device that helps the mother listen to the baby’s heartbeat. The sound of the baby’s heartbeat is the most reassuring gesture for the mother. Priced at INR 3,995 the device is available on e-bay. The new generation mothers are the luckiest of the lot! They are the ones who witnessed the evolution of technology and gadgets. They have seen Nokia 1100 and the advent of virtual reality devices. So babies, gear for suave mommies!
This Mother’s Day no matter what you gift her, remember to show that you care for her.
Techtree wishes all those beautiful mothers, A Very Happy Mother’s Day!
